Johnson Brothers Announces 2014 Scholarship Fund Winners

Johnson Brothers Liquor Company has awarded 13 scholarships ranging from
$5,000 to $8,000 each to students in its second year college scholarship fund.
The scholarship will be awarded annually to students whose parents work in the on
or off-sale alcohol beverage business. Scholarships are available each year to eligible students in Minnesota, North Dakota, South Dakota and Iowa.



Ben Weber

Graduate of Cretin-Durham Hall High School

Ben was a member of Cretin's speech team and National Honors Society while maintaining a 3.8 GPA. He has participated in Habitat for Humanity projects and volunteered for Kibera Girls Soccer Academy. Ben is attending the University of Minnesota this fall to obtain a degree in International Relations. He then has plans to obtain a Master's degree at the American University's School of International Service in hopes of becoming a Foreign Service Officer. Ben's father is employed by MGM Wine & Spirits in St. Paul.

Joe Willert (2)

Joe Willert

Graduate of Stillwater High School

Throughout his junior and senior year, Joe took accelerated, college level classes in Chemistry, Statistics, Calculus and Computer Science. He also played intramural volleyball and basketball. Joe will be attending North Dakota State University looking to major in Computer Science and minor in Computer Engineering. His father is the Beer, Wine & Liquor Category Manager for Spartan Nash.


Andrew Weber

Graduate of Metro Deaf School

Andrew was a member of the Academic Bowl team competing in regional and national competitions. He also played on Metro Deaf's School basketball team and has been Treasurer of the Student Council. Andrew will be going to St. Paul College for 2 years then plans to transfer to the University of Minnesota. He plans to major in Business Management and Deaf Education. Andrew's father is employed by MGM Wine & Spirits in St. Paul.


Amanda Rogotzke

Graduate of Springfield High School

Amanda was a 3-Sport athlete throughout high school in volleyball, basketball and golf - lettering in all three. She was chosen by the Lions Club of Springfield as "Student of the Month" and was a member of the Springfield High School Homecoming Court. Amanda is attending St. Catherine's College and planning to obtain a degree in Interior Design. Her father is employed by Outlaws Bar & Grill.


Mason Kwilinski

Graduate of Montevideo High School

Mason was a 3-Sport athlete for Montevideo High School, lettering in all three - football, wrestling and track. He is a member of the National Honors Society and Student Representative for the Parent/Teacher/Student Association. Mason plans to attend the University of Dubuque to study Criminal Justice and Psychology with the ultimate goal of becoming a SWAT team member for the police department. He also plans to wrestle for the Dubuque Spartans. Mason's father is a Retail Clerk at Fiesta City Liquor Store in Montevideo.


Mitchell Kwilinski

Graduate of Montevideo High School

Mitchell was a 3-Sport athlete during high school - football, wrestling & tennis. As a wrestler for Montevideo High School, Mitchell and his twin brother Mason helped to lead their team to a first time in history win the State tournament their senior year. Mitchell is also a member of the National Honors Society and served as Student Representative for the Parent/Teacher/Student Association. He will be attending the University of Dubuque pursuing a degree as a Registered Nurse. Mitchell's father is a Retail Clerk at Fiesta City Liquor Store in Montevideo.


Karlie Gehrig

Graduate of Andover High School

Karlie was the Captain of the Andover High School soccer team her senior year. In addition to her love for soccer, Karlie has made numerous contributions to her community with the 4H Club, assisting the elderly and mentoring youth soccer players. Karlie stood by her best friend's side while she battled Lymphoma just prior to her senior year, even shaving her own head in support. She is beginning Northern Michigan University in the fall planning to major in Forensic Science with the ultimate career goal of being a Medical Examiner. Karlie's mother works for Short Stop Bar & Grill in Coon Rapids.


Andrew LaBeau

Graduate of Lakeville South High School

Andrew has been a member and district level competitor for DECA for four years. DECA is an association that prepares emerging leaders and entrepreneurs for careers in marketing, finance, hospitality and management in high schools. Andrew is an avid intramural basketball player and enjoys weight training. He will attend the University of North Dakota with a focus on the Entrepreneurship Bachelor's degree program. Andrew's father is the owner of The Depot Bar & Grill in Faribault.


Casey Tillmann

Graduate of Big Lake High School

Casey played Varsity soccer for the Big Lake High School team from 10th grade through her senior year. This last summer she took a nursing class through Wright Technical Center and began as a Freshman at St. Cloud Technical this fall. Casey hopes to become a Sonographer. Her father works for the City of Elk River - Northbound and Westbound Liquors.

Madeline Jacobi

Madeline Jacobi

Graduate of Anoka Senior High School

Maddy was the Captain of the Anoka Senior High School tennis team for two consecutive years.  She was also a member of the National Honors Society. Maddy teaches Sunday School and has embarked on three mission trips with her church. She will be attending the University of Wisconsin - Eau Claire, majoring in Elementary Education. Maddy's father is the Liquor Store Manager for the City of Isanti.


Deanna Kolas

2nd year Scholarship Awardee - Graduate of Century Hill School

In high school, Deanna was a member of the National Honor Society with an outstanding 4.0 GPA. During her Freshman year at the U of M, Deanna volunteered with Students Against Hunger, participated in the Gold Standard Show Choir & played intramural tennis. She will be a Sophomore at the University of Minnesota this fall.  Deanna's parents operate Apollo Liquors in Rochester.


Seth Wall

2nd Year Scholarship Awardee - Graduate of Bemidji High School

Seth maintained a 3.8 GPA while playing varsity soccer for Bemidji High School and volunteering as a youth soccer coach. During his first year at Bemidji State University, Seth worked part-time and coached youth soccer. Seth's parents work for VenuWorks/Sanford Center in Bemidji.


Leah Seeley

2nd Year Scholarship Awardee - Graduate of Wayzata High School

Leah was a former softball player in Wayzata and volunteer at Golden Living Nursing Home. She is attending Normandale Community College and has been volunteering her time with Interfaith Outreach. After one more year at Normandale, Leah plans to go to the University of Minnesota for a degree in Hotel Management. Leah's father works for MGM Woodbury.
